Bounce house injuries are more common than parents realize, according to incidences of injuries and studies that have been conducted including one conducted by the Children's Hospital Level I Trauma Center in Los Angeles, California.
Bounce house injuries are more common than parents realize, according to incidences of injuries and studies that have been conducted including one conducted by the Children's Hospital Level I Trauma Center in Los Angeles, California.
The 4 ½ year study data showed more than 4,000 children have been injured and seen in the trauma center. Two thirds of the most common injuries involved fractures of the upper extremities.
The most recent incidence of injury occurred Saturday when two children playing in a bounce house were injured when a burst of wind carried a bounce house an estimated 100 feet landing on a roof of a home. This occurred in Marana, Arizona where children were attending a birthday party and two children, a nine year old and eleven year old girl were playing inside, when the bounce house flew away.
The nine year old girl was thrown to the ground in the yard and sustained minor injuries. The eleven year old girl was carried approximately 100 feet landing on a roof of a home that was approximately 13 feet from the ground. The eleven year old sustained a head laceration and other injuries, according to northwest Fire Capt. Adam Goldberg.
Firefighters rescued the girl from the roof and the children were transported to the University Medical Center in Tucson. Saturday night the girl was reported to be in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
