Two Pasadena police officers, whose names were kept secret after they shot and killed a parolee last year, were identified this week in federal court papers filed by an attorney representing the dead man’s family.

A 2-year-old Garden Grove boy who was unsupervised at a backyard pool died in a drowning incident, police said.

The boy was being cared for by his grandmother, who was also watching two other grandchildren, both of them developmentally disabled, the Garden Grove Police Department said. At the time, the boy was playing in a nearby plastic pool.

ACLU alleges medieval abuse in LA jail

The Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles fosters a “culture of violence and fear” that allows guards to routinely deliver brutal beatings to prisoners, resulting in broken bones and other severe injuries, the ACLU alleged in a report released Wednesday.

A pedestrian sustained serious injuries in a Los Angeles car accident the night of April 30, 2010, CBS News reports. The injury crash occurred at the intersection of Laurel Canyon and Chandler boulevards in North Hollywood. Los Angeles police officials say that the driver of a blue SUV cut off a Toyota Camry, which then swerved and hit the pedestrian. The SUV did not stop and kept going. Officials are calling this an instance of “non-contact hit-and-run.” The pedestrian sustained a broken arm and broken leg. The male driver of the SUV apparently caused the crash, but failed to stop. If apprehended he is expected to be charged with hit-and-run.
