Mr. Charlton has more than thirty-one years experience arbitrating, litigating, mediating and negotiating a wide variety of disputes. He has successfully litigated many catastrophic injury, wrongful death, governmental tort liability, product liability, sexual harassment and business and contract matters throughout his career. Mr. Charlton’s experience encompasses both state and federal courts and plaintiff as well as defense. Prior experience includes work as an executive in an oil company prior to becoming an attorney.

Mr. Charlton has been mediating cases since 1995. He settles over 90% of the cases he mediates. Besides being on the Federal Panel Mr. Charlton was a mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court for a number of years. Mr. Charlton also mediates cases privately for parties unable to resolve their disputes among themselves or through the voluntary programs of the Federal and Superior Courts.
ADR Style: Mr. Charlton is a facilitative mediator. That is he will keep the parties focused on the mediation to achieve a successful outcome by presenting ideas and alternative suggestions and creative solutions to ease the mediation process. This is done through various methodologies outside the typical course of litigation and adversarial negotiation. Accordingly, he may utilize a plan such as presenting proposals that represent possible solutions to each side during confidential caucuses. He may also provide a candid assessment of the dispute where appropriate, which may include Mr. Charlton’s opinion as to the likely outcome should the matter be adjudicated.
